NCS graduates have created some truly great social action projects over the years, making a positive and long-lasting impact on their communities. So, how can you get involved on 17 March 2018?
Social Action lets you make the most of your passions, character, knowledge and skills. By applying these unique little superpowers, you can help others who may be in need of some support, all the while making a real difference to your local community.
For NCS Action Day 2018, we are supporting those less fortunate than us. With the recent cold spell, homeless charities have been vital in saving lives. Our aim is to provide items that many of us take for granted to have a positive impact on the lives of homeless people throughout the UK.
We don’t want your money, we want you to help collect items and encourage your peers to donate these items:
All items must be new and sealed (where appropriate):
We are going to work with End Youth Homelessness, who bring together local charities to tackle youth homelessness on a national scale, and Crisis who are a national charity working with thousands of homeless people each year.
End Youth Homelessness
End Youth Homelessness is a UK wide movement, bringing together local charities to tackle youth homelessness on a national scale.
Crisis work directly with thousands of homeless people every year, providing vital help so that people can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good.
What you need to do:
If you’re interested in taking part in Action Day 2018 with Learn by Design, download the poster here!
Ask permission in your school/college to display these posters and host a collection between Monday 12th March and Friday 16th March.
Complete the details on the poster with your name, location of where people can bring items, and dates/times that they can bring items to you.
Contact Emily via firstname.lastname@example.org to let her know:
Display your posters around school/college from Monday 12th March and encourage your peers to donate these inexpensive items by Friday 16th March.
Keep in touch with Emily for ongoing support
Extra things you could do:
Ask for a slot to explain the project during assembly (let us know in advance if you need any support with this) or hold a lunchtime stall to collect items.
Encourage your parents and others outside of school/college to donate items.
Write a letter from yourself (without personal details) to a homeless person. A note to say somebody cares can mean a great deal to a lot of people.
After Action Day:
Following on from your involvement in Action Day, you’ll be invited to join the Local Grad Board. You’ll be given an opportunity to influence the programme moving forwards, volunteer to gain experience for your CV, and receive support to progress to paid NCS roles.
*Please note that there may be a short delay with NCS Action Day shirts, so let Emily know ASAP if you’re taking part.
Have you completed NCS with us? Let us know how you’re continuing your volunteering efforts, as we’d like to celebrate your achievements on NCS Action Day 17th March 2018.
