NCS Operations Manager

The key objectives in the role are:
To support and line manage Programme Managers in the lead up to programme delivery to ensure logistical arrangements and compliance checks are in place ensuring safe participation on programme.
To ensure that all activities operate within and adhere to all Learn by Design policies.
To ensure that all activities subscribe to the philosophy and values of Learn by Design.
To oversee the booking and engagement terms of all programme‑related spaces and services.
To oversee reports about programme readiness and programme delivery for senior managers or other members of Learn by Design as required.
To work alongside the Head of Learning and Development to ensure synergy between Programme Managers and Learning and Development Managers.
To establish and maintain positive working relationships with all members of the Operations team and to support with relationship management and effective communication across departments.
To deputise for the Head of Operations where required.
To provide support to the NCS Staffing Team as they recruit programme staff.
To provide, or ensure the provision of, exemplary customer service to our Managing Partners, particularly with respect to information requests and deadlines.
To monitor performance in the Programmes team; reviewing activity, costs and outcomes to ensure all agreed targets are achieved.
To drive the generation of the highest Net Promotor Score possible.
To carry out such other duties as might reasonably fall within the spirit and scope of the job and the level of responsibility it carries.
What is National Citizen Service?
NCS is the government's flagship youth programme for 15-17-year olds.
NCS is an experience designed to challenge participants and make them more socially engaged.
Participants experience residential activities away from home and team‑based skill building sessions, before developing their own Social Action Project designed to benefit their local communities. To date, more than 500,000 young people have taken part in NCS.
To be successful in the role you will need exceptional communication ability, verbal and written.
You must be self-motivated, organised and confident in your ability to coordinate various inputs, and be able to deliver to deadlines; you will be remotely line-managed and you will remotely line manage Programme Managers.
You will need to have a flexible attitude and be able to tailor your approach to the needs of particular contract areas and Managing Partners. This is a national role and there would some expectation of flexible working and travel.
A strong work ethic is essential.
Experience of working on the NCS programme is preferred although not essential. Pertinent university degrees and line management experience are also preferred.

Employment is subject to the provision of satisfactory references and the completion of a satisfactory enhanced DBS Check. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK, a full UK driving licence and their own vehicle.
Job Type: fixed term contract until 31 December 2022
Salary: £35,000-40,000 per annum (this figure includes a £200 a month car allowance)
Location and Hours of work:
Learn by Design are a partner responsible for delivering the NCS programme in multiple areas across the country. The role will be predominantly based in one of Learn by Design’s delivery regions, making use of one of our offices. The role will require some travel to all delivery regions and occasionally to Programmes meetings which take place in various locations in the country. Learn by Design’s Head Office is in Tamworth. Site visits are to be conducted in line with the needs of the contract. Expenses, overnight accommodation and subsistence are covered where needed. Due to the varying nature of the workload, the candidate will occasionally be required to work flexible hours.
Holiday: 2 days' holiday per full calendar month worked over the period of employment plus public holidays.
