East London NCS Changemakers Fundraise & Host Collection for Ukrainian Refugees 💙 💛

Learn by Design’s Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering Changemakers delivered their April social Action Project on Saturday 23rd April, after only having 1 month to set up the project.

They discussed a variety of poignant topics to cover for the project from mental health, the environment, and homelessness. However, looking at the current issues facing Ukrainians, there was a unanimous decision to support Ukrainian refugees coming into East London.

The NCS Changemakers created an event at Redbridge Central Library where people can come in and drop off clothing, toys and even food to then be donated to North and East London Collection, who are providing care packages to Ukrainian refugees in local communities. The teenagers also delivered a pitch to gain funding for their project, and managed to be awarded £200.00 for their project.

The event itself was a huge success, and something that exceeded everyone’s idea of what they could achieve, with nearly 200 kilos of clothing, toys, and food being donated from local residents, and supplemented any items of clothing that weren’t typically donated with the £200.00 funding.

A major part to this success is down to the strong teamwork, leadership, and communication the entire 37 strong team showed, as well as the trust they had in each other, and the responsibilities they took on.

To only have a month to set up a project of this scale, truly shows exactly what young people are capable of, given the right platform to succeed.
