Full S.T.E.(A).M ahead at The Big Bang at Cromford Mills

The Big Bang at Cromford Mills brought families together during a summer weekend in Derbyshire, despite the rainy weather. Cromford Mills, located in Cromford, Derbyshire, hosted this Big Bang Fair for all visitors to experience a fun day full of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, Art and mathematics) activities for young learners to enjoy.

The weather, however, didn’t diminish the fun to be had, as fortunately, the activities were well under cover, which allowed plenty of visitors to come along and see what Cromford Mills had to offer.

Exhibits:

We organised a variety of different exhibits to keep families and visitors engaged with the vast range of what is included where we think of the word: ‘STEAM’.

Special thanks to the following exhibits for making the weekend a successful one for our visitors who enjoyed their day out with us:

Workshop:

As well as interactive exhibits for young ones to get involved in, another special element of the day included workshops for the younger visitors to have a go at creating their own wind turbines and learn more about renewable energy.

(A workshop constructed and facilitated by a Learn by Design team member).

Our Big Bang Event Co-ordinator, Jade Rowley, has shared her thoughts about the event days at Cromford Mills:

“Both days were brilliant. Saturday was challenging due to the weather and the 2-and-a-half-hour power cut, but despite all of that the event stayed really busy and visitors engaged. Sunday was much better as the sun came out! The family-focus of the event made it a really unique Big Bang for us, and it was great to see children as young as 3 years old enthralled by the STEM activities we had on offer! The feedback we have received from visitors has been amazing.”

Feedback from visitors:

Most of The Big Bang Fairs are promoted for schools across the country, encouraging teachers to bring their learners to learn and experience more about the different career opportunities reflecting around STEM based careers. Therefore, this summer event was a successful change to bringing families, parents, grandparents etc and their children to experience.

We hope to work closely with Cromford Mills for future events.
