The University of Northampton brings The Big Bang to Silverstone Race track for the 3rd year running.
2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Apollo moon landing, arguably our greatest scientific & technical endeavour! Fuelling young people with the possibilities a career in science has to offer, is the ethos of The University of Northampton’s Schools Engagement Team. Hence the drive and passion that goes into organising The Big Bang Event each year.
3000 young people attend
Brimming with demos, exciting hands on activities for budding scientists and creative thinkers– once again Northants @Silverstone Big Bang Fair event excelled at bringing the best of #STEAM to the region. In its third year, the event saw over 3000 people flood through the doors of Silverstone, the home of motorsport. Highlighting the subjects on offer for study at UON, the event provides a platform for teachers, pupils, home educators to engage in a whole host of experiences.
Funding and supporters
The event, jointly funded by NCOP through hefce (Higher Education Funding Council for England) drives the government initiative to educate young people in the current stream of upcoming careers. From apprenticeships to Higher Education options, The Big Bang programme platform, prides itself on providing employer engagement with pupils across the region. The Gatsby Benchmarks have raised the benchmark for implementing good career guidance, raising aspirations and capitalising on the bridging skills gap within industry. Shows and Workshops
Science communicators included Dallas Campbell, Simon Watt, Sarah Cosgriff and Atomic Science showcasing their incredible science knowledge; igniting questions and encouraging young minds to be curious about the wonders of the world. From rocket science, ugly animal genetics and plane aviation dynamics, these dynamic speakers provided shows throughout the day. Fuze Coding provided jam packed sessions throughout the whole day. Educating young people on how to code and inspiring them to create their own coding games.
