Young people make rail their career destination

Destination Rail is a STEM outreach programme, specifically focused on the rail industry. Created by Learn by Design to STEM the careers gap within the rail industry whilst reaching out to areas beyond the Midlands. The event provides students with a unique opportunity to engage with employers from Rail and related industries, and to access a wealth of information about careers, that are available now and in the future.
The industry recognises that one of the key ways in which we break down stereo-types and address the skills gap issue, is to provide support development of our future talent. Destination Rail offers a platform where the Gatsby benchmarks; employer engagement opportunities, are met whilst showing young people the depth and breadth of careers in the rail industry. Destination Rail aims to showcase many of the innovative projects this industry is involved in.
Destination Rail event is aimed at key stage 3/4 students and is designed to showcase the wealth of careers available in the Rail industry.
15 schools from across Manchester arrived at The University of Salford for a day packed full of rail inspiration. RAIB and Network Rail provided engaging hands on workshops and 18 rail industry exhibitors were on hand to provide industry knowledge and career guidance.

Employer led workshops were followed by the Learn by Design's rail challenge, which results in a Dragons Den style presentation seeing a winning school announced as a finale of the day.
