DESIGN A ROBOT COMPETITION

Our Future have partnered with UTC Derby Pride Park to launch a ‘Design a Robot Competition’ with some great prizes to be won!

The competition is open to pupils from all schools that are part of the Our Future project. See the full list of Our Future schools here.

The competition can be run in school or completed at home with family engagement.

The Challenge: Pupils design a robot to help around school.

Every entry will need to include:

  • A drawing of the robot.

  • Labels to explain the robot’s features and the materials it will be made from.

  • A few sentences explaining their design and why it should win the Robotics Competition.

  • The child’s full name (first name and first initial of surname is also acceptable), year group and school name.

Optional extras:

  • Designs can include sizes and measurement if pupils want to get technical.

Designing the Robot

Your child needs to decide what kind of robot they want to design. The robot needs to be something that could help an area of their school and work practically.

For example, they could design a robot that:

  • Can help in P.E. class.

  • Can help play games in the playground.

  • Can help at lunch time to prepare and serve food.

  • Or any other innovative ways to help around school.

Before designing, your child needs to have a clear goal as to the purpose of their robot i.e. what they want their robot to help with at school. Children should write down what the purpose of their robot is and label their design, highlighting the features and materials. Adults can do the writing on behalf of younger children. Children can name their robot and make it stand out with lots of colour.
