EngineeringUK – Tomorrow’s Engineers Programme

Learn by Design collaborated with “Science Made Simple” another STEM provider to design a programme of sessions that highlighted how STEM is used in our everyday lives.

Challenge:

Tomorrow’s Engineers is an initiative led by EngineeringUK and the Royal Academy of Engineering to provide a one-stop-shop for information and resources on the careers available in Engineering for learner in year 8 and 9.

The core aim was to help schools incorporate engineering into the curriculum and inspire the next generation of engineers. To complement the online resources, Tomorrow’s Engineers needed a delivery partner to run a programme of regional events in schools around the country.

Solution:

Learn by Design collaborated with “Science Made Simple” another STEM provider to design a programme of sessions that highlighted how STEM is used in our everyday lives. The collaboration resulted in a whole year group show that provided hands-on interactive experiences in the world of science, technology, engineering and maths principles. The session was named: “Around the World” The shows and workshop sessions were designed to also allow for industry partners to integrate and embed their own industry focus, brand and careers information. This ensured effective, UpToDate content inclusion which put real life companies and jobs at the forefront of learning.

Legacy:

Each year a dedicated TE week is set in November and encourages schools from all over the UK to come together to discuss ideas, share their STEM projects, host events and champion the vast array of STEM careers that exist the world. 2021 saw around 1000’s of young people explore climate change and become ambassadors in  ‘Schools COP’ Summit, where they discussed some of the key topics world leaders highlighted at the UN Climate Change Summit, such as:

  • How to get young people involved in the climate debate

  • How engineering, science and innovation can help achieve net zero

  • What changes young people would like to see in nature, cities, and the built environment

  • The impact of climate change on young people, their hopes, and fears for the future

Now in it’s tenth year, the Tomorrow’s Engineers Week #TEWeek22 will take place on 7th to 11 November carrying the theme “Future Minds Live” Learn by Design have actively championed the annual event on all its social media channels, embedding TEWeek in the landscape of hundreds of schools across the UK.

On behalf of everyone at Todholm Primary School, we’d like to commend the workshops that were delivered yesterday to our P7 children. The content and delivery were outstanding, and the workshops were enjoyed by staff and children alike. Both teachers were extremely impressed with how much was covered in a two-hour period.  We were also able to share with our parents and the response from them has been very positive too.
