Find Your Fit

Challenge:

Leicester City Council, working in partnership with Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership Ltd (LLEP), invited tenders for the provision of a programme targeted at the prevention of young people becoming NEET and facing long term unemployment. To counteract a complex set of circumstances that can lead to a young person becoming NEET, a blended and supported programme with early interventions and signposting to LLEP areas of job growth or stability is required which will offer a realistic pathway to some young people in the greatest of need.

This programme will engage 30 young people at risk of becoming NEET and facing long term unemployment in the Leicester and Leicestershire area.

Solution:

Learn by Design won the contract in 2021 and developed the “Find Your Fit” programme. Targeted at 16 – 24-year-olds who are not currently in education, work or training, the programme has been developed to include a tailored approach of support. The programme includes a week’s work experience, achievement of a qualification in literacy, numeracy or digital, along with a case study of each individual to showcase their journey into their next careers steps.

Dedicated education mentors are assigned to the cohort to help develop skills, raise aspirations, and boost confidence and resilience. Set programme challenges encourage the young people to embrace employer engagement in the community, enhance CV writing skills, create a personal career profile, and discover their goals and ambitions to become their best self.

Legacy:

To date the “Find Your Fit” programme has seen 80% success rate in its participants moving onto further training or paid work since completing the programme in August 2022. The programme is continuing with a new cohort into 2023 and we are offering this model of NEET intervention into further councils across the country.
