Challenge:
2020 Hopscotch Education were looking for a partner to deliver the HS2 Zoom Rail school sessions on behalf of HS2. The challenge included delivering 20 workshops across 20 schools along the HS2 Route , (London to Birmingham, Birmingham to Leeds, Birmingham to Manchester) Monday-Friday during the academic year 2020 / 21. They were looking for quality delivery, management and co-ordination to ensure COVID secure procedures were adhered to and the HS2 brand was embedded into schools across the region.
Solution:
Learn by Design worked managed school bookings, provided an engaging experience for all school students and highlighted the careers available in rail as a result of innovations across the rail industry. The programme has been so successful that Learn by Design went on to win the contract to deliver EPIC Engineers to secondary schools in 2021. We are currently running a pilot primary school programme to 10 schools in Lichfield, West Midlands Oct 22 – March 23. We are providing HS2 with evaluations, feedback and evidence based impact reports.
Legacy:
‘Skills, Employment and Education’ is one of HS2’s seven strategic objectives and is critical in achieving the vision of HS2 being a ‘catalyst for growth across Britain’. HS2 will be the new high speed backbone of Britain’s rail network, but it’s much more than just a railway. It is a catalyst for growth: revitalising the country, creating new opportunities for jobs and skills, regenerating towns and cities, and bringing us all closer as a nation. The programme addresses key challenges in the industry including: skills gaps, lack of diversity in engineering (12% women), lack of careers information and negative perceptions around rails, construction and engineering.
